Amish Kid Leads Police on One-Mile Horse and Buggy Chase
This is Levi Detweiler, a 17-year-old kid arrested following a police chase last week and charged with possession of alcohol and reckless endangerment. And "overdriving an animal." See, he's Amish, and he was driving a horse and buggy.
When will our politicians finally deal with the looming Amish menace? Last week, Detweiler, probably high on hormone-free butter and delicious corn, ran a stop sign in Leon, N.Y. and refused to pull over to the side of the road.
After leading the police on a one-mile chase, he failed to take a sharp turn and ended up in a ditch, escaping on foot. (So much for your so-called "electricity" and your confounding "zippers" now, Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office!)
But Detweiler is no barefoot bandit (partially because he can't, you know, fly planes). Following a week-long investigation, Detweiler was arrested and charged with "underage possession of alcohol, overdriving an animal, reckless endangerment, failure to stop at a stop sign and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle." He is currently in jail on a $500 bond.
