Two cricket fans were startled when a 4.5 billion-year-old meteor crashed near them. "We were quietly supping our pints, both looked up at the same time and saw a black object coming towards us," Richard Haynes told the Telegraph.

The five inch meteor crashed just as Sussex cricketer Luke Wright was batting against Middlesex during a match held in Uxbridge, according to Haynes and his pal Jan Marszel, who told the paper:

It landed five yards inside the boundary and split into two pieces. One piece bounced up and hit me in the chest and the other ended up against the boundary board. It came across at quite a speed – if it had hit me full on it could have been very interesting."

The pair have kept the pieces of meteor as mementos of their day on the pitch. And the rocks could be priceless! According to meteorite expert Dr. Matthew Genge, "Potentially it contains secrets as to the formation of our solar system."
