The "Meet a Gawker.TV intern" feature introduces you to our fantastic team of bright and eager interns. Today we have an interview with Eleni Crush.


How did you learn about the Gawker.TV internship program?
 I saw a post seeking interns go up back in December, and I stopped "writing" the paper I was "working on" at the time and furiously composed an application email. And, what do you know, here I am now.

What do you want to be when you grow up?
 If I could run my own theater company meets film production house meets bar meets renegade blogging empire from a renovated converted loft space on the scenic Gowanus canal, I would. But, to keep it simple, a writer.

What is your all time favorite TV Show?
 Oh, don't make me choose. But if you do, I'd say it's a three way tie between Mad Men, Freaks and Geeks, and the first season of Alias.

What is your favorite post on Gawker.TV?
 The sheer joy, exhilaration, and wonder of Double Rainbow Guy is hard to beat, but I've also loved The Tao of Don: A Complete Collection of Don Draper's Words of Wisdom and Hoda Kotb Drinks And Drinks And Drinks.

What experiences did you hope to gain from this internship?
 The chance to really get my hands dirty and see how Gawker.TV works. I've been obsessively reading Gawker Media sites for a long time, and the chance to see where and how it all happens was virtually impossible to pass up.

Did your Gawker.TV internship live up to your expectations? How so?
 Absolutely. As a Gawker.TV intern you really get a chance to try everything—finding great video content to pitch to editors, writing posts, editing clips, even helping out on shoots. From a writing perspective, it's great to be able to link back to Gawker in your own portfolio, and it's great exposure.

Was there something in particular that you learned from this internship that you didn't know before you started?
 How to capture streaming video from the Internet. That was a mystery to me.

What has been your favorite part about your internship?
 The people. Everyone I've met in the program has been really friendly, smart, and very cool. It's a fun group to work with.

What skills do you feel you've gained as a result of this internship?
 I've gotten twenty million times better at writing really clearly, concisely, and cleverly. And realizing what makes a great post and what makes a not so great post (and then how to get the word out about those really awesome posts so that someone besides your mom and your cat see them).

What was the biggest surprise you encountered interning at Gawker.TV?
 How jealous my friends get when I tell them that I get to go to work and watch TV.

How does this internship differ from any other previous internships you might have had in the past?
 This has been the most hands-on of my internships. Even though I'd previously interned for various magazines and blogs around town, this is where I got to do the most actual writing. And the content we cover makes the writing even more fun.

If you could, would you intern here all over again?
 Yes. Is that an option?

Would you recommend interning for Gawker.TV to others?
 Most definitely.

Do you have any tips or advice you would give future Gawker.TV interns?
 It gets really, really cold in the back corner. Dress in layers. Sweaters will be your best friends.

Do you have any ideas on how we can improve the internship program?
 New wireless mouses. Sometimes there's drama at the intern table with tech issues.

What do you hope to do once you finish your internship?
 Pay my rent! Just kidding. Sort of. But I want to keep writing, keep getting my stuff out there.

Any regrets?
 No way.
