Here's a trailer for Love & Other Drugs, an Ed Zwick (Glory, thirtysomething — seriously, both of those) dramedy set in the early days of Viagra. Gyllenhaal is a cocky pharmaceutical rep (is there any other kind?), Hathaway's his ladylove.

Hathaway and Gyllenhaal have played lovers before, in Brokeback Mountain, but this most recent coupling seems far less doomed. Gyllenhaal does his usual milky-eyed, thick-haired sly puppy shtick, while Hathaway attempts to add some sultry slickness to her goofy smart girl routine. There's a caustic, dumpy best friend and some veteran comedy actors thrown into the mix, plus there's lots of bare Gyllenhaal chest and giggly sex and Jake wears cool sunglasses! Everything about the trailer looks as straight-to-video generic as that bland title, so it's odd that this is one of the more anticipated autumn releases. Oh, sure, it's no Never Let Me Go or Life As We Know It (please tell me no one is actually anticipating that one), but it is a fall movie from a high profile director starring two Oscar nominees. Zwick has made good stuff in the past so maybe it isn't the warmed-over, Cameron Crowe-ian mess it looks like in this trailer, but... who knows! For now, in the spirit of Viagra, we'll say that no, that is not a movie ticket in our pocket, nor are we happy to see it.
