Saudi Court Trying to Punish Man by Severing his Spinal Cord
Sure, stoning is a harsh punishment. But how about having your spinal cord severed on court orders? That's what one man in Saudi Arabia is facing, after paralyzing another man in a fight over two years ago. A little brutal?
Amnesty International says a court in the town of Tabuk is asking local hospitals if they can sever the man's spinal cord to punish him for his crime. One hospital has said it can perform the operation. Amnesty issued a statement, saying "We urge the Saudi Arabian authorities not to carry out such a punishment, which amounts to nothing less than torture." The group went on to suggest they give the man a hefty fine, and/or flog him.
If Amnesty International is suggesting the man receive a flogging, then he must be really screwed. Damn.
