Tea Party Members Encounter Special D.C. Tax, Respond by Throwing Sandwiches
That Tea Party Guide to Washington for Glenn Beck's rally should've warned attendees in advance about the new five-cent bag tax in the District. But it didn't, and look what happened: stunned Tea Partiers hurling sandwiches at deli employees.
D.C.'s small tax on paper and plastic bags went into effect at the beginning of this year, to (1) cut down on litter! and (2) pay for a major cleanup of the filthy Anacostia river. Since tax increases on anything, of any size, offend our American sensibilities, everyone picked up cheap, reusable bags, and the tax was incredibly effective: bag usage decreased from 22.5 million to 3.3 million in the first month.
But according to George Washington University's Hatchet newspaper, an anti-tax Tea Party fellow was so disturbed by the frivolous levy this weekend that he damn near started a melee at a sandwich shop:
Though the rally was a mostly peaceful gathering, two rally attendees got into a heated argument with an employee at the GW Deli over the D.C. bag tax, which ultimately resulted in one of the tea party members throwing a sandwich in the deli employee's face. The GW Deli declined to comment on the issue.
You know, if the Tea Party started a "Boycott Washington" campaign over this tyrannical bag tax, it would really be a win-win for both them and the residents of D.C. Please consider, Tea Party?
