PETA's surprisingly reasonable complaint about Lady Gaga's meat dress: "After time spent under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh that it is and likely be crawling in maggots." That's why I prefer mink stoles.

On that note, if Lady Gaga had said her dress was a statement about the evils of a fur- and leather-dependent fashion industry, would PETA have liked it? Because a meat protest dress actually sounds kind of up their alley. (Maybe it'd have to be fake meat, though?) Anyway, we'll never know because Gaga's actual rationale was this insipid thing: "If we don't stand up for what we believe in and if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones. And I am not a piece of meat."

If PETA's iconic form of protest against fur is to throw fake blood on its wearers, then what should they throw on Lady Gaga's meat dress? Salt? [Image via Getty]
