Will Mike and Molly Do for Fat People What the Big Bang Theory Did for Nerds?
CBS has a new sitcom that it hopes will do for overweight people what the Big Bang Theory did for nerds. It's terrible, it's just the worst.
The Pitch: Mike and Molly is Family Matters meets the King of Queens meets the Biggest Loser.
The Set Up: Mike Biggs is a police officer in Chicago who is overweight and attends Overeaters Anonymous meetings. Molly Flynn is a school teacher in Chicago who is overweight and attends Overeaters Anonymous meetings. They meet when Molly hears Mike talk about his life in of those extremely clichéd supposedly-funny-and-also-poignant sitcom speeches.

Cringe Factor (Out of 10): 9. This show is really bad. It's not remotely funny, it's just twenty minutes of fat jokes and little else. It's also really formulaic, engaging in the typical sitcom high jinks that postpones their first date to the second episode and relying on contrived physical comedy to do a lot of the work.

Over/Under for Cancellation: 6 episodes. CBS has done a good job keeping sitcoms on the air lately, even Gary Unmarried made it two seasons, but this doesn't have much going for it. I guess it's nice to have a show on the air about normal people with normal problems like trying to watch their weight, but it all seems a little pointless to me if you're just gonna use that background as an opportunity for twenty minutes of fat jokes each week.
