Taylor Swift fancies herself a romantic heroine of sorts. That's why she seems convinced her songs are worthy because they "express" so much about her relationships. It doesn't help that Access Hollywood buys into delusions of grandeur.

Wait a second—what is she supposed to write about? I don't know her music at all, but writing what you know and writing about emotions, struggles in order to purge them and achieve catharsis is pretty much the definition of art. It also makes people going through similar tribulations relieved that there's someone who understands. And she can't help her age. When she's older, she'll be wiser, but she'll still be writing about her experiences (def. of art, again.). So, lay off.

@Alex9: Not to mention that songs have never, ever been about love. I mean, it's quite revolutionary what she's doing: recording music about her own life and her own relationships. What a weird, bold way to use song. I mean, those kinds of emotional musings really belong in a book or movie, not in music. Music is only for passing the time in an elevator.

@Alex9: I don't know. Fionna Apple was 16 when she came out and managed to write songs with substance. I applaud her for writing her own lyrics, but we expect artist to mature. She's 21 yrs old and she's still writing like a middle schooler.

@princessbeyonce: limit of her talent. That's why I don't get upset at the Twiligth world explosion because Meyer is supposed to be a terrible writer. As is Dan Brown (never going to read either). But they're probably working at full capacity; it's just their talent is far lower than a Dickens or a Mavis Staples. So good for them for doing what they love and I am sure they work really hard.

I don't know about Swift—don't know her music—but, I've heard from pro rock critics that some of her songs, the ones about breakups, and are quite good. She apparently can put on on heck of a stadium show.

@Alex9: i'm not familiar with her catalog, but i know a few of her songs and they are NOT good. i've just seen self-reflective songs executed better way too many times to let her off the hook. to each their own i suppose lol

She's sold a brazillion albums & is part of the national discourse— I might not be the world's biggest Taylor Swift fan, but it doesn't seem like a delusion of grandeur to me. She's not ranting on a street corner, here, you know?
