Government counter-terrorism officials gamed out a very likely terrorist scenario in a Northern California drill this week: That of marijuana growers setting off bombs, taking hostages, and laying siege to a strategically critical dam. We are so prepared for this!

While big marijuana growers in California might have their violent territorial disputes from time to time — and will keep having them, thanks to the voters of California! — this seems like a non-essential way to spend 18 months of preparatory work and $500,000:

Federal, state and local officials carrying out a counter-terrorism drill in Northern California Wednesday played out a scenario in which local marijuana growers set off bombs and took over the Shasta Dam, the nation's second largest, to free an imprisoned comrade. [...]

"That was so stupid," said Dale Gieringer, head of the California chapter of NORML, the decades-old National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws.

Stupidity isn't the major problem here — plagiarism is. This is the climax to the first damn Transformers movie, where evil space robots, disguising themselves as American manufactured goods, blow everything up and take over the Hoover Dam to recover their evil space robot leader and some secret cube with magical powers. The only difference is that the Transformers scenario is more realistic.
