The straight male porn star who tested positive for HIV earlier this year has gone public and is now saying porn should have mandatory condom use and that doing gay scenes is what gave him the virus that causes AIDS.

Derrick Burts—who did straight scenes under the name Cameron Reid and gay films as Derek Chambers—spoke to the L.A. Times and says that he must have contracted HIV by doing oral scenes on a gay porn movie set because the only person he has sex with in his private life is his girlfriend (who is also a porn performer) and she tested negative for HIV. Also because gays are gross and have cooties and that is the only way you can get AIDS. Sometimes if you even share a glass with them! While HIV transmission from oral sex is possible, it is incredibly rare.

The Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation, which does mandatory testing for the straight porn industry and tracks HIV transmission, says that his contact with the virus happened in a nonprofessional capacity. They also discovered all the people he had done scenes with have remained negative as well.

After testing positive at the AIM, Burts was unsatisfied with the care he got and went to visit their arch nemesis AIDS Healthcare Foundation, which advocates for mandatory condom use on porn movie sets. And guess what Burts is advocating for now? That's right, mandatory condom use. Ironically, most of the respectable gay porn companies already require mandatory condom use. So Burts is advocating for the policy that lead to him contracting HIV in the first place? It appears that there is more to this story than meets the eye.
