Bridesmaids: Women Can Be Funny Too?
[There was a video here]
Here's a trailer for the Judd Apatow-produced comedy Bridesmaids, a movie that may finally solve that age-old debate about whether women, the ones with the vaginae, can be funny or not. Judging from this trailer, it looks like they can!
I mean, there the women are, falling down and farting and fucking and everything that the boys do in their comedies. And it's funny! The script for this movie, which is basically a bachelorette party version of The Hangover it seems, was co-written by the film's star, Kristen Wiig, so that's exciting. And look at the rest of the cast! There's Ellie Kemper, the quietly hilarious new secretary on The Office, one-time SNL MVP Maya Rudolph, and the improv genius Wendi McLendon-Covey, from Reno: 911!. Plus there's Gilmore Girls' Melissa McCarthy, who is currently on the unfortunate Mike & Molly, but looks fun in the trailer, and Rose Byrne, who is a good dramatic actress. Can she do comedy? Let's find out! As for the men, there's Jon Hamm and, apparently, Little Britain's Matt Lucas. Good dudes both.
So it looks like, yes, maybe women can be humorous. Who knew??? At least they had a man, Paul Feig, to direct them. Otherwise they'd just have been running around having their periods everywhere and nothing would have gotten done.
