Click to viewThe New York Times has a cool video taken inside Cairo's "Facebook Flat," where a group of dedicated young Egyptian activists hang out, update their Facebook pages and help organize the Egyptian uprising. It sort of looks like the apartment in which we are typing these very words, which makes us feel very inadequate about ourselves. Guess it's time to go "like" some pages about fighting animal abuse or something.
Absolutely incredible! It came to mind that these young people are the anti-Taliban. They're young, educated, but just as willing to put their lives on the line to promote their beliefs. This contrast between old world and new world is startling, exciting, and gives me hope.
Well, as one of them said that the TV and any other media access are state owned and just full of propaganda programming. Facebook access shall we say, is somewhat always, a first person account in communication and not affected by government brain washing.
I agree that Facebook is definitely a medium of outreach as Twitter is. The difference is that twitter seems to embrace that role while the Facebook's management seems adamant.
They seem cool as shit - all young and hipstery looking and smoking and shit. I'm jealous.
The problem with clicking "like" on animal abuse pages is fb always takes them down.
