Another weekend, another set of spring movies. This weekend sees the debut of a highly anticipated lady comedy, a less anticipated sad man indie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt in a wig, and Dax Shepard being Dax Shepard.

The Big Bang

Antonio Banderas stars in this jazzed-up noir-type thriller, and is joined by an eclectic cast which includes Sam Elliot, William Fitchner, James van der Beek, and Autumn Reaser (!!!). There's classic PI's office scenes and non-classic scientific intrigue. (Limited release)

The Bleeding House

A "visceral horror thriller" (according to YouTube, anyway) about a nice-seeming family visited by a vengeful Texan, The Bleeding House is yet another in the long series of movies that teaches us the important lesson that no one is safe ever, even in their own home. Important lesson. (Limited)

Bridesmaids

Duhhhh. This is the big comedy movie that will, once and for all, prove if women are worth anything in this crazy modern world. If it fails, no more women. Sorry guys, that's the deal they struck. (Wide)

Brother's Justice

Dax Shepard stars as Dax Shepard in this meta comedy about Dax Shepard leaving behind the whole acting thing to pursue a career in martial arts. Dax Shepard, everyone. (Limited)

Cameraman: The Life and Work of Jack Cardiff

This is a documentary about legendary cinematographer Jack Cardiff, whose long resume includes The Red Shoes, The African Queen, and Death on the Nile. And Rambo: First Blood Part II, but we'll let that one slide. (NY, LA 6/3)

Everything Must Go

Will Ferrell does another seriocomic turn in this indie based loosely on a Raymond Carver short story. He's joined by the luminous and wonderful Laura Dern and Rebecca Hall, as well as Biggie Smalls' son. Oh, and Michael Peña! Good cast, good pedigree, good movie? The New Yorker liked it! So... no? (Limited)

The First Grader

While "the Second Grader" is when you knock a girl (or guy's) front teeth out on the headboard while in the act of love, The First Grader is a drama about an old man seeking out an education, at age 80, in rural Kenya. The fine and underworked Naomie Harris stars as a dedicated teacher. Sorry for the weird intro to this one. (Limited)

Go For It!

Like Save the Last Dance before it, Go For It! is about the underground hip-hop dancing scene in Chicago. This time, though, there is no whiny Julia Stiles. Rather we have a rebellious Latina who's encouraged to follow her dreams by a kindly teacher. There's only a brief hint of romance in the trailer, but you know there will be more in the movie. There's just got to be! (Limited)

Hesher

Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays a total wastoid who befriends a sad little kid in this drama. Because she's contractually obliged to be in every other movie this spring, Natalie Portman has a small role as the nerdy crush object of the troubled lad. Rainn Wilson features too. Looks kinda grim. (Limited)

The High Cost of Living

Zach Braff returns to the big screen as yet another listless young-ish man trying to figure out his identity. This one is slightly more intense though. Braff is a drug dealer who is involved in an accident with a downtrodden woman, he feels bad and befriends the downtrodden woman, then drama ensues. Will there be infinite abyss staring? It's possible. Probably only in a metaphorical sense, though. Like, there won't be a big black pit or anything. (Limited)

How to Life Forever

This a documentary about aging and how scary it is. So, uh, enjoy a little fear of mortality this weekend! (NY)

L'Amour Fou

A documentary about legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, L'Amour Fou looks fittingly fashionable and glamorous. But also sad. The movie mainly focuses on the late YSL's partner of forty years, Pierre Berge, as he prepares to auction off much of their vast collection of arts and other treasures. (NY)

Make Believe

Christopher Guest meets Stagedoor meets Spellbound in this documentary about the wacky teens from all over the world who attend a young magicians competition in Las Vegas. This looks wonderful and weird and I can't wait to see it. (Limited)

Priest

Finally, something for the fellas. Here Paul Bettany plays a futuristic, post-apocalyptic vampire hunter, alongside sexpot Maggie Q. Christopher Plummer also shows up, wondering just what the hell this whole picture is about. (Wide)

Skateland

Not to be confused with the recent Stake Land, Skateland pairs Twilight vampire Ashley Greene with Red Riding Hood werewolf Shiloh Fernandez to tell the tale of a young man coming of age while his favorite local rollerdisco prepares to close down. It's like Whip It! for indie dudes, I guess. (Limited)

The Topp Twins: Untouchable Girls

This is a documentary about the Topp Twins, the Kiwi lesbian twins who do comedy and country music. It chronicles their career and touches on a breast cancer scare and looks generally pretty fascinating. (NY)

True Legend

Mixing elements of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Kill Bill, and 300, this martial arts fantasy features Tiger's Michelle Yeoh and Bill's David Carradine (RIP). Looks fun! If you must be dragged to an action movie this weekend, try to persuade your date to see this instead of Priest, I say. (Limited)
