If you're stupid or horrible enough to want RedState.com founder and habitually wrong professional right-wing shit-thrower Erick Erickson to publicly vouch for your product or candidacy, you're in luck! All you need is to pay him, money, in order to compensate him for his credibility among idiots.

Politico's Ben Smith got hold an email circulated by an ad salesman representing Erickson:

Why not put Erick's influence to work for your organization?

Our new RedState Endorsement Program includes:

1. Erick's Video Endorsement (subject to final approval by Erick)

2. Sponsorship of the RedState Morning Briefing (sent 4X)

3. Delivery of RedState Dedicated Email Services (sent 4X)

4. Hosted advertising on RedState.com (interstitial banner overlay)

5. Limited Program Availability

The banner overlay, which is just one part of the program, is running
today. Please click on the following link to take a look:

Organizations with issues, candidates and viewpoints that are in line
with Erick's positions can truly benefit from his endorsement. The
program is specifically designed to provide broad, multi-channel
coverage and put your message in front of the people who can truly
support your advocacy and fund raising efforts.

Sure sounds like a political endorsement for sale, huh? Especially the part about how "organizations with issues, candidates and viewpoints that are in line with Erick's positions can truly benefit from his endorsement."

Having been caught, Erickson promptly threw the salesman under the bus, claimed to know nothing about the effort, and wrote an apologetic post withdrawing the offer. "Just to start it off, no, my endorsements are not for sale." Anymore!

UPDATE: Joe Guerriero, the vice president and group publisher of Human Events and Eagle Publishing, which run RedState.com, contacted me very insistently to point out that the salesman responsible for the endorsement sale has been "disciplined": "Erick did not know the email was sent by the salesperson. Nor did I. The salesperson has been disciplined for sending a blanket email that was not approved by the person he directly reports to or me."

Maybe he's telling the truth! Would the vice president and group publisher of the company that brings you Ann Coulter and Erick Erickson lie to you?
