Even though he's a godless Chicagoland schoolteacher who majored in math and biology-science, Hemant Mehta still has some values. I know! The world's so complicated. Anyway, when Mehta heard about two Oregon churches being vandalized, he started fund-raising to help them finance their clean-up efforts.

Some of the vandalisms written on the churches praised the "Flying Spaghetti Monster," the principal deity of the carb-conscious Pastafarian faith. Mehta, whose blogging-Internet identity is "the Friendy Atheist," didn't approve of these messages. "I know a lot of atheists didn't want to see that happen," he told the Fox & Friends on Saturday morning. "We believe in a civil discourse and a good proper dialogue." His charity work for the churches isn't about jumping on the God bandwagon—he just wants to help people who have been wronged:

"You know, when I saw this church get vandalized and someone did it, I guess through atheism or Pastafarianism, I just figured the church, even though they are wrong and even though I disagree with their beliefs, they didn't deserve this," atheist Hemant Mehta said Wednesday. "So I think a lot of readers on my site would agree with this, so I asked them if they would consider chipping in."

Metha raised more than $3,000 in American-Jesus bucks from his readers, and also generated "gasps of dismay" from some folks who don't quite comprehend how you can still be nice to people who hold different beliefs. Yes, the craziness of the world never stops! He also seems to have baffled the Fox & Friends—who appear to be rather concerned about "non-friendly" atheists, maybe because they heard about all the fed-up ones.

Speaking of non-friendly atheists, the Bend police have possibly caught the vandals.
