James "Whitey" Bulger, the Boston crime boss who inspired Jack Nicholson's character in The Departed, was finally arrested in Santa Monica, of all places, after more than 15 years on the lam.

And the Bruins just won the Stanley Cup, too! Bulger, one of the FBI's Ten Most Wanted, was captured just days after the agency renewed its efforts to find him by initiating a 14-city campaign with retouched photos of the mobster and his mistress, Catherine Greig. (The last time they'd had a credible sighting of Bulger was in 2002, when he was seen in London.) He'd been on the run since 1994, when crooked FBI agent John Connolly tipped him off that a case had been built against him under RICO; Bulger was, famously, an FBI informant—possibly recruited by Connolly—a status that supposedly kept him out of the reach of Boston police and other law enforcement, and that he exploited to great effect against his rivals.
