NYPD Can't Stop Leaving Documents in Trashcans
Back in May, Animal New York blogger Bucky Turco found a bunch of internal NYPD documents sitting in a trash can outside a midtown precinct. And this week, Bucky Turco found a bunch of internal NYPD documents sitting in the same trash can. We detect a pattern here!
The pattern is the NYPD snidely acknowledging that yes, they should shred them, but only because "someone with a lot of time on his hands is going through the garbage there." The other pattern is how everyone should immediately start dumpster diving outside NYPD precincts, which is more or less legal! Anyhow, Bucky has posted some of the documents he found here—nothing top secret this time, but there is an amusing memo excerpt instructing officers to "avoid using stereotypes which are based on a person's race, color, ethnicity, hairstyle, clothing, or physical appearance. Remember, the Department is multicultural and stereotypes based on the above WILL NOT BE USED TO JUSTIFY YOUR ACTIONS."
Progress!
