When Lady Gaga opened the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards with a monologue/performance as her male alter ego Jo Calderone, the reaction was generally positive. It was a bit bizarre, sure, but we've come to expect that from Gaga. Plus, it was something new!

But as you'll see in the above video, Calderone then stuck around for the incredibly awkward Britney Spears tribute that followed, and it was he who later accepted Gaga's award for Best Female Video in the most annoying, affected way possible.

That's when, even for the most hardened Gaga fans, it all became too much—the moment she officially, even if temporarily, jumped the shark.
