Here's a trailer for We Bought a Zoo, Cameron Crowe's based-on-a-true-story tale of a single father who, well, up and buys a damn zoo. It's a family repair drama and one that, based on this trailer, doesn't skimp on schmaltz.

There's such a fine line in Crowe's work between winsome and loathsome, with some films existing safely on the former side (Say Anything..., Almost Famous), others on the latter (Elizabethtown, Vanilla Sky), and one (Jerry Maguire) existing firmly on the line. This zoo picture, well, seems unfortunately to reside in Elizabethtown, though at least more for its sappiness than its aggressive quirk, which E-town, Crowe's most recent and worst film, suffered from in spades. Obviously this is just a two-and-a-half minute clip reel, and the film could be totally different than advertised, but if this is the A material they're rolling out here, that's not good.

At least Matt Damon is consistently lovable, and the surprising presence of J.B. Smoove is exciting, so Zoo at least has that going for it. But everything else? I dunno... Too many life lessons in one trailer! This might not be the redemption picture that Cameron Crowe fans have been hoping for.
