Amanda Knox's study abroad from hell is over. Today an Italian appeals court overturned the American co-ed's conviction for the sexually-motivated 2007 murder of roommate Meredith Kercher. After four years in detention, the woman known to the international press as Foxy Knoxy will be "immediately released."

Before a packed 14th-century courtroom in Perugia, Knox teared up and begged for her freedom in fluent Italian (turns out years in prison is great for language immersion) alongside co-defendant and ex-boyfriend Rafaelle Solecito this afternoon. She addressed six jurors and two judges:

I've lost a friend in the worst, most brutal, most inexplicable way possible. I'm paying with my life for things that I didn't do.

I insist I'm innocent and that must be defended. I just want to go home, go back to my life.

I did not kill. I did not rape. I did not steal. I wasn't there. I wasn't there at the crime.

Prosecutors argued that Knox and Solecito had teamed up with an Ivorian man named Rudy Hermann Guede to rape and murder Kercher—a British student in Knox's study abroad program—in a violent psychosexual orgy. An estimated 1000 people stood in a piazza abutting the courtroom awaiting Knox's verdict. Some jeered "murderer!" at Knox; others cheered and hugged when the verdict was announced.
