What's New in Music
Congratulations, Jessica Simpson! Jessica Jr. will have plenty of great music to listen to when he or she enters this world. Here's some of it.
Rihanna Finds Love, and It Looks Like Chris Brown
Rihanna's video for "We Found Love," the one that got her kicked off of a field in Ireland, is here. Scenes from the orgiastic mud party she shot there made it in (2:00), but the most compelling part of this video that it tells a Requiem For A Dream-inspired tale of reckless love featuring a dude with the same hairstyle as Chris Brown. There's even a scene where they argue in a car (2:52).
(Also, at the 4:04 mark, she vomits ribbons).
This is the lead single from Rihanna's sixth album, Talk That Talk, out on Nov. 18.
Arcade Fire Will Not Rest Until They've Performed With Every Rock Legend
The Grammy-winning band from Montreal has played with Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, David Byrne, U2, and now Neil Young, with this fond cover of "Helpless" by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.
The collaboration was part of a Young's annual Bridge School Benefit Concert this weekend in Mountain View, California.
Gaga Was "Born" to Make Remix Albums
On Nov. 21, Gaga invites buzzing acts The Weeknd, Twin Shadow, Röyksopp, Foster the People, The Horrors and more to her Haus for a remix party.
Lady Gaga's Born This Way: The Remix is the singer's second remix album (the follow up remix album to her 2010 remix album, The Remix).
Up top, Goldfrapp's powerful take on "Judas."
Chairlift Rising
If the rest of their third album is on par with "Sidewalk Safari," then 2012 could be a big year for Chairlift, of Das Racist collaborators/iPod ad fame. Something, the Brooklyn duo's major-label debut, will be released by Columbia on Jan. 24.
Charli XCX Goes Nuclear
At 18, Charli XCX of London is making sharper pop music than that of her Walt Disney DNA-hybrid contemporaries. Sounding like it was cryogenically frozen in the 80s, "Nuclear Seasons" is the title track from her debut album, which you can expect "at the end of November."
Dream Love Get a Tan
Keep your eye on the incredible drummer in the video for "We Got A Tan" by Dream Love. He may seem like a humble kid singing over some hard bassline disco in a darkened room, but the Tallahassee-based musician's ambitious goal is spelled out on his label's website: "to spread his brand of synth-seance across this world, from the isolating metropolis to the fog-choked southern swampland."
"We Got A Tan" is from the solo act's self-titled album, out Tuesday.
Justice Is The Holy Trinity of Music
The French dance music duo's second album, Audio, Video, Disco came out today. The group is flirting with a hair metal sound on this one. Posted, the video for the title track. And check out a Grease Megamix-style supercut of the whole album, here.
Deer Tick Personifies Smoking
Nothing to see here but a ragged country ode to "Mr. Cigarette," from Rhode Island folk band Deer Tick's third album, Divine Providence, released this week. Sounds like they had fun recording this one.
