Imagine going to work in a Midtown office tower, trudging your way to a job you don't really like anymore, and while getting into the elevator as it shoots up in the air, crushing you against the ceiling, splitting your body in half, and killing you. Hell of a way to go.

Well, that is the terrifying thing that happened to one woman today going to work at 285 Madison Avenue. Two others were injured in the crazy accident. While there is some disagreement about whether the elevator rose with its doors open or plummeted while the woman was trying to board there is one thing that is for certain: this sucks. Thank god for walk-ups, because I can't look at an elevator the same way again.
