Here's the jazzy trailer for On the Road, the adaption of Jack Kerouac's days of Beat anthem, brought to you by Motorcycle Diaries director Walter Salles.

The cast is evenly weighted, with familiar faces Kirsten Dunst and Kristen Stewart opposing relative newcomers, Sam Riley (Brighton Beach) and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy). An adaption of an old classic, particularly one with a large and devoted following, is always a tricky undertaking. People will inevitably line up to hate this one, either because they disliked the book or because they dislike the idea of a certain topless Twilight actress sitting shotgun in an adaption of an important classic. But the trailer is engaging and everyone in this, director included, has the potential to steer it away from the cheesy and into something that is (hopefully) vaguely authentic.

So what do you think? Will this be nothing more than a bunch of beautiful beatnik cliches gallivanting around smoking pot in flannel shirts, or will Dean Moriarty and his mad crew of burning roman candles do the "generation-defining" novel justice?
