Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre Planning To Take Tupac's Virtual Ghost On Tour
Tupac Shakur's reanimation for Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's Sunday night Coachella closer proved so successful, that the duo is seriously considering taking the late rapper's hologram on tour.
According to sources close to the discussions who spoke with the Wall Street Journal, reps for Dre and Snoop are weighing options for a national tour that would either feature living guest stars such as Eminem, 50 Cent, and Wiz Khalifa, or drop the big bill in favor of "a more limited tour" with just Dre, Snoop, and Tupac.
The hologram — which is less of a hologram and more of a very expensive upgrade to some 19th century hocus pocus — was designed by Digital Domain Media Group Inc., the company behind the SFX used to recreate Brad Pitt in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
"This is just the beginning," said Digital Domain's chief creative officer Ed Ulbrich. "Dre has a massive vision for this." No word from Dre's camp on what exactly that means.
