Doctor Who Has Worked Seven Days a Week Since the '50s Still Charges Patients Five Dollars a Visit
Dr. Russell Dohner of the sleepy Illinois town of Rushville (pop: ~3,500) has been aided by the same nurse for the past 57 years. His furniture is exactly the same too; and his office visit charge hasn't changed since the Seventies.
"That's the way I've always done it," says the 88-year-old physician who prides himself on working seven days a week and never taking time off. "There are quite a few people who come to see me because they can't afford anybody else," he says. "I can help."
"I guess you could call him a local hero," said resident Lynn Stambaugh.
But Dr. Dohner isn't one for plaudits. "I guess I don't know what I'd be doing if I wasn't doctoring," he said.
