In his upcoming memoir Soulacoaster: The Diary of Me, controversial King of R&B R. Kelly "reveals" that The Notebook — Nick Cassavetes' film adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' same-named novel — inspired him to pull the plug on his 12-year marriage to Andrea Kelly in 2009.

Spoiler Alert: "As the film credits started to roll, I couldn't move," Kelly writes. "I burst into tears. People walking past me patted me on the back, trying to console me. 'The Notebook' was beautiful, and I was crying because its hero and heroine had died together."

He continues:

But I was also crying because I remembered a Valentine's Day — when a helicopter dropped a rainfall of roses — that had come and gone ... My marriage had died. And there was nothing I could do to bring it back.

Andrea has since released a statement dismissing her ex-husband's claim. "[The movie] came out in 2004 and we saw it together," she told TMZ. "Our divorce wasn't finalized until 2009 so it's impossible that the movie could have been the reason for our relationship ending."

If The Notebook were in fact to blame for the couple's split, it wouldn't be the first time the romantic drama wreaked havoc on a relationship. Vulture points to this anecdote from the movie's leading man, Ryan Gosling:

People would come up to me and tell me that they thought [The Notebook] was romantic, but one guy told me that he was engaged and [his fiancée] broke up with him after that movie because she said to him, 'You wouldn't build a house for me [like the lead character does], would you?' He was like, 'Well, no, but I don't know how.' She said, 'But if you knew how?' He said, 'No, I wouldn't. But it doesn't mean I don't love you.' She said, 'Yeah, it does.' And she called it off.
