Louis C.K. Clarifies Tosh Support Tweet, Says He Was Unaware of Rape Joke at the Time
On last night's Daily Show, guest Louis C.K. shed some light on his part in the ongoing Daniel Tosh rape joke controversy.
Answering to allegations that he expressed support for Tosh in a tweet complimenting the comedian on his funny show, C.K. told Jon Stewart there was nothing more to the remark than met the eye.
The Louie star claims he was in Vermont at the time and was blissfully unaware of Rape-Joke-gate when he tweeted what he thought was an innocuous comment about an episode of Tosh.0 he happened to watch on TV.
"Like two days later I come home and I read these, like, bloggers and, like, Hollywood reporters, 'Louis C.K. Defends Daniel Tosh Amid Rape Joke Controversy,' C.K. said. "I had no idea...I've been called a rape apologist because I said hi to a guy."
The comedian — who is outspoken on the issue of not holding back against hecklers — did go on to offer his thoughts on the crux of the controversy.
"It's also a fight between comedian and feminists, which are natural enemies, because stereotypically speaking, feminists can't take a joke," C.K. told Stewart, before acknowledging that the firestorm has reshaped his views on rape.
"I've read some blogs during this whole thing that have made me enlightened to things I didn't know," he said. "This woman said how rape is something that polices women's lives...That's part of me now that wasn't before."
But C.K. said that despite his new-found respect for sensitivity, he "can still enjoy a good rape joke."
