Hip hop artist Nicki Minaj displays plenty of vocal variation — but at what cost?

Minaj has done some damage to a vocal cord, and has been forced to cancel her weekend concerts in England. "Regretfully," which is probably of little consolation to attendees.

This is the price one pays for being Nicki Minaj. And, perhaps more to the point, for not listening to one's doctor.

According to a statement from Minaj's publicist—

Despite doctor's orders, she performed on a bruised vocal chord in [New York City] on Aug. 14. As a result, the chord has gotten worse.

Her hubris was her downfall.

Also, did she learn nothing from Adele?
