As the Republican Party considers keeping its ultra-strict anti-abortion plank in tact, at least two media outlets are making their displeasure known through similarly pointed imagery.

To protest the GOP's decision to stand by an anti-abortion plank that doesn't allow exceptions in cases of rape or incest, Newsweek has installed a "coat hanger cursor" on its Tumblr page, evoking the dark days of self-induced back-alley abortions.

The Huffington Post also employed a coat hanger to illustrate its above-the-fold story on the GOP platform draft.

While the plank is identical to the one adopted in 2008, its reaffirmation comes on the heels of public outcry over Rep. Todd Akin's (R-MO) controversial "legitimate rape" remarks, making the lack of an exception appear particularly out of touch.

UPDATE: Newsweek apparently made the decision to install a coat hanger cursor after being called out by comedian Rob Delaney for appearing to criticize Huff Post's alarmist imagery while concurrently running a "horrifying" cover piece by Niall Ferguson on the need to replace Barack Obama. Newsweek disagreed, and responded by replacing its mustache cursor with a coat hanger.

As Mediaite points out, the response to Newsweek's response so far has been largely negative.
