Farmer Who Wanted 'a Few Nice Sunflowers' Accidentally Plants Field Full of Cannabis
A German farmer's recent attempt to grow some sunflowers on his property has gone to pot — literally.
Tipped off by neighbors, police in Mömbris paid a visit to the 74-year-old Bavarian man to ask why he had a large number of three-meter-tall cannabis plants — some 1,000 in all — growing on his farm.
The unnamed farmer explained that, in an effort to produce sunflowers, he scattered some bird food he had lying around. Unbeknownst to him, the seeds were actually a sunflower/hemp mix, and the end result was a plant he was unfamiliar with.
"This kind of thing has never happened in the area before," a police spokesman told Germany's The Local. "He only wanted a few nice sunflowers."
Though the narcs said the cannabis wasn't potent enough to yield a satisfactory high, the farmer was still asked to run over the crop with his tractor.
