The American iteration of the televised talent competition The X Factor returns this week for a second season with pop princesses Britney Spears and Demi Lovato stepping in to fill the seats left empty by departing judges Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul.

To promote the show's Wednesday night premiere, Fox released a sneak peek that doesn't so much endorse the qualifications of the X Factor's newest judges as do the exact opposite.

At around the 1-minute mark in the video above, one contestant who has just been rejected by Simon Cowell disputes the claim that he's "like a mouse trying to be an elephant" by saying "I worked way too freakin' hard for this."

Lovato then pipes up and tells the man, "a lot of people work really, really hard for their dreams, but it's not meant for everybody," to which he responds without skipping a beat, "that's why you use auto-tune and I don't."

Simon's near-spit-take says it all.

If The X Factor was nothing but contestants lambasting the polished studio turds who deign to judge other people's authenticity, then I might just consider tuning in.
