A loyal dog died last week after he was hit by a train in Kazakhstan while dragging his suicidal owner off the tracks to safety.

According to the news site Info-Tses (via RIA Novosti), the canine's owner told local authorities in Karaganda he sought to kill himself by drinking a bottle of vodka and passing out on the train tracks.

"Upon seeing the train, the dog started pulling its owner away," said investigator Aida Muldasheva. "When train drivers saw the dog on the rail tracks, they used the emergency brake."

Sadly, they were too late: The dog was struck and died on the spot.

The owner was rushed to the hospital where he was treated for a number of injuries and broken bones.
