Dave Chappelle, Questlove, and Prince Partied Together and it Turned Into a Real-Life Chappelle's Show Skit
In the first episode of Grantland's "Animated Archives" — a Ricky Gervais Show-esque animated adaptation of Bill Simmons' B.S. Report podcast — Chappelle's Show co-creator Neal Brennan recalls the time he, Dave, and Roots drummer Questlove were invited to an after-party at Prince's opulent hotel room.
Brennan's says the whole experience was ripped from a Charlie Murphy True Hollywood Story — right down to the room-service pancakes.
"It's so weird," Brennan said, "that I remember we just sat in Chappelle's car, like, in front of my apartment till, like, seven in the morning, just, like, 'is this happening?,' like 'what the Hell is happening?' And we had to go to work at, like, nine, but it was, like, 'this is crazy, right?'"
