President Obama Slams Back: 'Gov. Romney Shoots First, Aims Later'
Speaking with 60 Minutes' Steve Kroft for an interview scheduled to air tonight, President Obama criticized GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney for politicizing the deadly consulate attack in Benghazi with incorrect claims.
"There's a broader lesson to be learned here," Obama said. "Gov. Romney seems to have a tendency to shoot first and aim later and as president one of the things I've learned is you can't do that."
Romney came under fire today — even from members of his own party — for doubling down on statements he made yesterday suggesting the Obama administration was "sympathizing" with the attackers by allowing the embassy in Cairo to condemn the religious insult that allegedly sparked the protest rather than the violent protesters themselves.
The embassy's remarks, which were released in advance of the protests, were not authorized by the administration.
"It's important for you to make sure that the statements that you make are backed up by the facts," Obama told Kroft. "And that you've thought through the ramifications before you make them."
