That Legendary Tig Notaro Stand-Up Set is Now Available on Louis C.K.'s Website
"Thank you, thank you, I have cancer, thank you, I have cancer, really, thank you."
Thus began Tig Notaro's now-legendary 30-minute stand-up set at Largo back in August.
The comedienne, who was already enduring a slew of physical ailments as well as the loss of her mother, had just been informed that she had breast cancer. But being in the business of making people laugh, Notaro had no time to be sad — so instead she transformed her sadness into jokes for the benefit of others.
Since then, the gig has gone on to become one of the most talked-about anythings anywhere ever — even though no one outside the people in attendance that night had heard even a snippet of the act.
Until today.
Louis C.K., who raved that Notaro's set was one of "a handful of truly great, masterful standup sets" he's seen "in 27 years of doing this," has made the entire show available for download through his website at $5 a pop, with $4 from each download going to Notaro, "of which a portion will be donated to charities associated with fighting breast cancer."
Worth it? "Absolutely," says Entertainment Weekly. "If anything, it manages to surpass the already-huge expectations attached to the performance."
