Study Gives More Weight to the Jay-Z Lyric 'Ladies Is Pimps Too'
Ladies, time to start brushing dirt of your shoulders and such. Recent studies, particularly by the General Social Survey, which has been prying into the dating lives of people since 1972, suggest women are now cheating just as much as men.
In 2010, 19% of men said they'd cheated, down from 21% in 1991. Those numbers increased from 11% in 1991 to 14% in 2010 for women.
A similar 2011 study from a different institute that probably asked the question in a nicer way found less of a divide, around 23% for men and 19% for women.
The journal of Psychological Science sought to explain this shift, arguing that with increased economic and social power comes infidelity. "Women," as Wall Street Journal reporter Peggy Drexler puts it, "can now use their power in ways to which men have long been accustomed."
That's right, Peggy. Go and brush your shoulders off.
