Manhattan Is Flooding and Sandy Hasn't Even Hit Yet
The worst of Hurricane Sandy isn't supposed to hit the New York City region until after 4 p.m. today, but signs of flooding have already begun in some parts of the city. (And New Jersey.)
At high tide, West Manhattan's Battery Park Esplanade was pretty much under water. According to the Wall Street Journal's Eric Holthaus, the surge hit 3.6 feet, 1/2 a foot short of its max during Hurricane Irene. And there's still two high-tide cycles to go.
