Let's Ask Lesbians to Raise All the Children: A Study Shows They Raise Smarter, Stronger Kids
It's the middle of the afternoon, do you know where your children are? You'd better hope they're hanging out with the lesbian couple down the street, because, as it turns out, lesbians make for wonderful parents.
The Williams Institute at UCLA tracked 78 children with lesbian mothers over a period of 26 years. The study, entitled "Adolescents with Lesbian Mothers Describe Their Own Lives," found that 17-year-olds with two mothers tended to have higher GPAs, strong family bonds, and considered their mothers to be good role models.
The study's principal investigator, Nanette Gartrell, said of the children she studied:
"At the end of high school, the teens tell us that they have excellent grades, feel connected to their families and friends, and admire their parents."
She added: "As a psychiatrist, I can say that these are the types of child-rearing outcomes that every parent hopes for."
The study appears in the Journal of Homosexuality.
