Earlier this year, Appalachian State University sociology professor Jammie Price was suspended for showing her (college, adult) class a documentary about porn, containing porn. She also had the temerity to suggest, in class, that college athletes get special privileges. I know; I know. You will be happy to learn that she appealed, and that a faculty committee largely vindicated her, saying in its report that her actions, for the most part, fell under academic freedom, and that she should not be punished.

You may be unsurprised to learn that the pornography-challenged school's chancellor decided to ignore the report and punish her anyhow, probably because [sleazy joke impugning Appalachian heritage], and because the chancellor's name is "Kenneth Peacock" (pictured above).

Inside Higher Ed reports that Peacock, a man that I am prepared to say is not very wise despite his advanced age, announced that the faculty review panel can go fuck itself, and Prof. Price must agree to a "two-year professional development plan" to get her mind right, in much the same way that Chinese counterrevolutionary intellectuals were ordered into reeducation camps for their own good. How dare she allege that athletes receive special treatment?

Price faced a series of student complaints in the spring about her teaching in an introductory sociology course. Two athletes first complained that she had made comments that suggested hostility toward athletes. Price has maintained that they didn't understand her comments, which were about the way many colleges focus more on the athletic than the academic success of minority students. Further, she criticized a university investigation into sexual assault allegations involving athletes, Price said, stressing that she didn't comment on all athletes. The university responded to these complaints by moving the athletes into a separate section so they would not be taught by Price.

The athletes must not be offended by the suggestion that they receive special treatment! Quickly—give them special treatment! And stop showing sex to college kids, for god's sake. Kenneth Peacock was a college student once, and he knows damn well that he didn't learn anything about fucking on campus.

Sorry your school is kind of dumb, Prof. Price.
