Pope Benedict XVI is just a Tweep like one of us.

His Holiness officially joined the social network Twitter this morning after verifying the handle @Pontifex (which means pope in Latin).

Though he already has over 100,000 followers, the 85-year-old pontiff isn't expected to issue his first tweet until December 12th, when he is scheduled to begin a weekly Q&A session using questions submitted via Twitter with the hashtag #askpontifex.

Though Vatican spokesman Monsignor Paul Tighe said Pope Benedict would not be writing the tweets himself, all "pearls of wisdom" will be approved by him. "Not physically," Tighe told the Associated Press, "but from his mind."

Asked if the tweets will be infallible, a Tighe said they would not, but would be considered part of the Church's fallible ordinary magisterium.

All tweets will be translated simultaneously to English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, German, Polish and Arabic, with Chinese possibly being added in the near future.

Meanwhile, Chris Brown reactivated his Twitter account last night, so make of that what you will.
