After two mixtapes and one studio album put them on everyone's "best new bands" list, the Brooklyn-based alternative hip hop trio Das Racist has announced its decision to split, with each member going his separate way.

Actually, according to MC Victor "Kool A.D." Vazquez, the group that was best known for being at the combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell has been broken up for past two months. "[F]or the record i quit das racist 2 months ago and was asked by our manager not to announce it yet," Kool A.D. tweeted on Saturday.

His revelation followed one made by MC Himanshu "Heems" Suri on stage during his solo performance at Munich's On3 Festival — a show Das Racist was scheduled to play. "You guys wanna know the secret?" Heems told the crowd. "All right, so I'm going to do some Das Racist songs, but Das Racist is breaking up and we're not a band anymore."

After the two MCs had their say, hype man Ashok "Dapwell" Kondabolu chimed in, telling Spin he was "bummed when we actually broke up, when it was done, mostly because it was a way to make money really easily." He added: "Now, I probably won't be able to make money that easily ever again."

According to Dapwell, the three had planned to break up back in May after releasing one more studio album and going on a farewell tour. "Now, all of that has gone to shit," he said.

Perhaps for Das Racist and Dapwell, but Heems and Kool A.D. have both moved on, with each releasing a pair of solo mixtapes this year that have been well received.
