Musician Who Had Vintage Guitar Destroyed by Delta Gets a New One from Gibson
After his prized 1965 Gibson ES-335 sustained nearly $2,000 worth of damage following a Delta flight from Buffalo to Detroit, musician Dave Schneider says the airline tried its damnedest to avoid paying up.
Until he got the attention of media outlets and Facebook users, that is.
"I received quite a few apologies from different folks at Delta which seemed a bit forced," Schneider told Yahoo News, adding that at least one rep seemed "refreshingly genuine" in promising to prevent future occurrences.
The company further agreed to compensate the Zambonis frontman in full, and even gave him two free flight vouchers.
But, wait: There's more.
When Gibson learned what had happened to Schneider's $10,000 vintage guitar, they immediately hooked him up with a 50th anniversary reissue of the 1963 Gibson ES-335, and offered to repair his ES-335 as well.
"We all know Gibson guitars rock," Schneider said. "But at this moment, the Gibson company is rocking even harder than Pete Townshend's Les Paul."
The New Zealand native plans to return the favor by buying a few Gibson guitars and auctioning them off for charity.
"To be honest, with Gibson reaching out to me," he said, "that's the cherry on top of the best musical nightmare ever."
