An SUV driver on her way to visit her son in Plantation, Florida, says she was sure the Great Horned Owl she struck near Yeehaw Junction was roadkill.

"I was driving about 60 miles an hour, (and the owl) never moved," Sonji Coney Williams told WSVN. "I said, 'Oh, my God, I hit a bird!"

It wasn't until a day later that she was alerted to the fact that the owl was very much alive — and very much inside her car's grill.

"There was a family that pulled in front of my parking space and flagged me down," Williams told the Fox affiliate. "They said, 'Don't move, don't move, you have something in the grill of your truck.'"

Williams quickly phoned up the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which sent a wildlife officer down to free the bird.

According to the officer, the owl didn't appear to be injured, but was not at all amused.
