Fung Wah No More: Notorious Beacon of Terrible Transportation Has Been Shut Down
In the most inevitable news story today, the Fung Wah bus company has been told to pack their bags. After inspectors discovered cracks in the frames of several of the buses during a surprise inspection, the Boston to New York Chinatown bus service was asked to remove all vehicles manufactured before 2005.
Now, a division of the U.S. Department of Transportation has called for Fung Wah "to immediately cease passenger service and provide its entire fleet of 28 motorcoaches for thorough and detailed safety inspections by qualified inspectors." (Motorcoaches! Sounds fancy.)
Over the years, the bus company has been the source of a variety of anecdotal inconveniences (check the hashtag #TheLastTimeITookFungWah for some hearty whining) as well as some serious calamities.
Despite the fact that this ban was a long time coming, the suspension of service is temporary, at least until the safety problems have been addressed satisfactorily. Then perhaps, another chance to Fung Wah Wah Wah all the way home.
