9/11 Museum Removes Commemorative Cheese Plate From Gift Shop
The 9/11 Museum has removed a commemorative cheese plate—"with heart symbols marking the spots where the hijacked planes made impact on 9/11"— from its gift shop after complaints from victims' family members and the public.
Gothamist first reported news of the offensive plate last week. Since then, the museum has reconsidered, in large part because of the overwhelmingly negative response.
"Once the public starts coming in, you learn so much," Joe Daniels, president of the memorial foundation, told the Wall Street Journal. "We in no way presume to get everything right. We will accept that criticism, absolutely."
The Wall Street Journal reports that, as of Tuesday, the cheese plate is no longer for sale in the museum's shop.
