95 MPH Race to Hospital and Last-Second Birth Captured on Dad's Go-Pro
When Kristin Dickerson went into labor late last month after a 42-week pregnancy, her husband Troy Dickerson did the sensible thing and strapped a GoPro camera to his head to capture the dramatic, high-speed ride to the hospital and the birth itself, which took place as an understandably frantic Kristen stood outside the hospital's entrance.
Go-Pro aside, Troy handled the situation in as calm and supportive a manner as possible, considering he was racing his pregnant wife at 95 mph down a Rosenberg, Texas highway to the hospital. "I can't make it! I can't make it," Kristin said during the drive. "We need to stop."
The couple made it but just barely. Kristen stopped after taking one step from the car at the hospital's entrance and, standing, delivered the baby into her husband's hands as nurses and doctors rushed out.
"I'm thrilled to have the footage," Kristin told ABC News. "I'm more hesitant to send it to people, because it's such an intimate moment for us, but as a birth educator, it's really cool to let people see that our bodies know what to do."
