A Notorious Former L.A. Sheriff Could Soon Be in Jail
Lee Baca was the sheriff of Los Angeles County for 15 years beginning in 1999. Soon, he could be sentenced to jail.
Earlier this week, Baca pleaded guilty to lying to federal investigators in a case related to his officers routinely abusing jail inmates, and then trying to obstruct the FBI investigation into the abuse. If you’re interested in learning how bad the LA county jails were under Baca, please see this ACLU report, “How a Savage Gang of Deputies Controls LA County Jails.” Baca lied to protect these deputies, and his own reputation.
When he goes before a federal judge in May, Baca could be sentenced to up to six months in jail. He probably will not be abused. And he will still keep his pension of more than $300,000 per year.
It’s something I guess.
