At first I thought this Bynes stuff was funny. Now it turns out to be really sad. I wish TMZ would stop posting stuff learned from inside the Mental Hospital where she is at.

It should be both. But TMZ seeks out this information and pays money for it with the intent to publish it. That's what TMZ does. It's a rag. A hospital employee, on the other hand, is supposed to follow the HIPAA Privacy Rule and a different code of ethics.

I wonder how TMZ and other outlets know these details? If you're on a 5150 hold a hospital cannot even confirm that you are admitted due to privacy.
I am glad she is getting help, and I understand this is a long road (I have a family member with bi polar disorder), but it pains me to see these details in public :(

Unfortunately, TMZ has a long history of buying tips from healthcare professionals at facilities who are treating celebrities. Totally against the law (HIPAA violation, at minimum), but there it is.

Yeah, I am assuming so, but that is a serious fucking no no. I guess we just have to wait for heads to roll at the hospital to find out what happened, or perhaps it was her parents disclosing the information.

Amanda Bynes had a very public meltdown, so the revelations about her psychiatric stay are neither a surprise nor something that's going to hurt her reputation. In fact, we'd just be perpetuating the stigma attached to mental illness by acting like it's something that can't be talked about in the open.
I wonder if anyone else has had this idea, but I'm throwing it out there:
What if the small population sample of rational, put-together individuals were offered up as "therapy people" for celebrities that went down the wrong road? Of course, you'd have to undergo a pretty extensive evaluation to ensure you're not just punking.
But I can see the connection points now:
"Why, of course, Lindsay Lohan. I'd be thrilled to hang out with you tonight in Williamsburg, grab a Crif Dog, and keep you out of trouble."
They do have people like that. They're called "Sober Ninjas". Aaron Freeman (aka Gene Ween from the band Ween) has one that goes on the road with him now.
