Today, friendly Ben & Jerry’s enthusiast Bernie Sanders introduced the Ending Federal Marijuana Prohibition Act in the U.S. Senate—a bill that would legalize the recreational use of marijuana nationwide.

It should be noted up front that it is very unlikely that the bill will make its way to law. What it will do is make Sanders look even more appealing to the 420-friendly young lefties who already support him for president, and, he probably hopes, show his commitment to criminal justice reform—an important issue for the Black Lives Matter movement, with which his relationship has been fractious. It’s a campaign move more than a legislative one.

Imagine: weed, legal, everywhere. Well, not quite everywhere: Sanders’ legislation would remove federal restrictions on cannabis, but states would be free to enforce their own bans. Still, Seems pretty chill.
